2020 Range Rover Sport HST: New 395-HP Inline Six
JLR Builds New Inline Six
Jaguar Land Rover, aka JLR, recently revealed a new 395-horsepower inline six engine. Currently, the Range Rover Sport has a 3.0-liter supercharged V6. The major flaw with this engine is that it is actually a V8 block. Yes, that is correct. Basically, due to JLR being a smaller company, a cheap alternative to developing a new engine is to use one already in the shop. So, engineers put a 6-cylinder heads into a V8 block. Although the engine works, it is not efficient or optimal. But, now, that is going to change! One of the first vehicles to contain this engine will be the 2020 Range Rover Sport HST.
A Dive into the New Inline Six
Now, let’s take a dive into the new inline six. The 2020 Range Rover Sport HST will use the new 3.0-liter supercharged inline six. This motor produces 395 horsepower and 405 lb.-ft. of torque. Obviously, this is with the help of the single twin-scroll supercharger. On top of that, there is actually a 48-volt electric supercharger. This helps minimize boost timing and maintain energy that is otherwise lost to the environment.
Regardless, this car can hit 60 mph in only 5.9 seconds. This is 0.9 seconds faster than the typical Sport with the V6 engine. As with JLR, superchargers are spanning the market including other manufacturers such as Audi.
Ready for the 2020 Range Rover HST?
So, now that the info is out there, are you ready for the 2020 Range Rover Sport HST? As a 2020 model year, the car may arrive in late 2019 or early 2020. With a tip of the hat to the previous V6 variant, the new I6 will conquer that loss. The new motor allows JLR to compete with more sophisticated manufacturers. And, the idea behind the electric supercharger, is already in use by Mercedes-Benz models. Basically, it absorbs energy from the brakes and so forth to provide boost and power certain functions. At some point, this information will be available from JLR. In conclusion, the HST will be a game changer for the manufacturer… and is probably ready for a run at the Dragon Challenge!
