Lamborghini Sián FKP 37: Manufacturer’s 1st Hybrid Sports Car
Lamborghini’s Hybrid Sports Car Venture
On September 3, 2019, Lamborghini unveiled their newest model, the Sián, at the Frankfurt Auto Show! The Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 is a mid-engine hybrid sports car, a 1st for the manufacturer. But, it’s definitely not the first for their parent company, Volkswagen. Either way, this is a big step towards the upcoming EV future for the company. And, even though it’s a hybrid, it’s as close to a traditional Lambo as it could be. Why? That’s because this car boasts a V12 engine… so yea… it’s definitely still a Lamborghini at heart. Next, let’s take a dive into this stunning automobile as it is truly an Italian powerhouse.
6.5-Liter V12 + 48-Volt Electric Motor System
The Lamborhini Sián FKP 37 is an absolute monster of a hybrid sports car. On top on a 6.5-liter V12 engine, this car includes a 48-volt electric motor. Starting with the V12, this engine boasts 774 horsepower and 531 lb.-ft. of torque. Providing support, the electric motor provides an additional 34 horsepower and 28 lb.-ft. of torque. Confusingly, Lamborghini claims this hybrid has 819 horsepower, but the numbers on their site didn’t add up. Either way, it’s a ton of power for a hybrid!
Diving a bit more specifically, let’s take a look at the battery and performance numbers. The low voltage 48-V system includes a lithium-ion supercapacitor. This inclusion is 3x more powerful than a battery with the same weight. Being a low voltage setup, this allows current to reach up to 600 A. This power goes directly to the rear wheels, and braking inertia is used to recharge the capacitor. As per performance numbers, the Sián should be able to reach 60 mph in less than 2.8 seconds. Furthermore, it should reach a top speed of over 217 mph. That’s awesome!
A Deeper Discussion of Specifications
With a carbon fiber monocoque and body, the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 is a lightweight masterpiece. On top, the roof includes electrochromic glass fixed on the monocoque. And, on the front, this car boasts a new electrically powered active aero system. Next, stepping underneath, the powertrain of the Sián is an AWD system with a 7-speed ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) gearbox. Finally, going back to the exterior, this car has 20” wheels on the front and 21” wheels on the rear.
The Lamborghini Sián boasts a push rod magneto rheologic active front and rear suspension. Furthermore, slowing down the tires are dual hydraulic circuit brakes with a vacuum booster. On the handling side, the car contains a LDS (Lamborghini Dynamic Steering) system with a variable ratio. And, don’t worry about safety! This car has front dual stage airbags with an adaptive passenger airbag. Continuing, this car also has side “head-thorax” airbags and knee airbags in select markets.
Ready to Drive the Hybrid Lamborghini Sián?
Overall, the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 is another engineering feat by the manufacturer. With all of this power and high-quality race-based engineering, this car will be a beast on the track. But, how much will it cost? How many will Lambo produce? Well, this car will reach a price of around $3.6 million USD. Time to start saving now! Secondly, Lamborghini aims to produce only 63 units of this car, so it is quite limited! So, even with the funds in hand, it will be difficult to order one of these cars. Regardless, Lambo does offer more reasonable options other such as the Aventador. In conclusion, Congrats to Lamborghini on their first hybrid – everyone will be waiting to see what’s next!
