Bugatti Crossover in Consideration at Manufacturer
Recently, Bugatti is seeking to add a second model to their lineup alongside the Chiron. With rumors spreading across the market, Bugatti has two possibilities. One of the biggest considerations is a Bugatti Crossover. While not a full-out SUV, it would be similar to the Urus, but more compact and lightweight. It’d also sport a ton more power than the Urus, as well as the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid. So, if given the green light by Volkswagen Group, a crossover could come to market from Bugatti. It’s basically a revival of the Royale in ultra-luxury limousine style crossover.
Although the CEO of Bugatti, Stephan Winkelmann, is against SUVs, that doesn’t rule out the crossover. To back this up, Winkelmann actually oversaw the development of the Urus. So, building a similar crossover wouldn’t be a complete surprise. There’s also consideration of a 2-door crossover sports car. Depending on VW’s decision, Bugatti will move forward with either car, or neither. For all anyone knows, VW will decline both choices, leading to chaos amongst Bugatti news outlets.
Over 1,000+ Horsepower via V8 & Electric Motors
So, as with most Bugatti models, this car will boast an obnoxious amount of power. If the Bugatti Crossover is to become a reality, this car would probably sport the Urus’ motor. This is a 641 horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Furthermore, the engine would receive backup from an electrical motor to reach a goal of over 1k horsepower. In combo, these engines would make this vehicle one of the most powerful crossovers in the world.
Who Doesn’t Want a Bugatti Crossover?
So, who doesn’t want a Bugatti Crossover? Well, surprisingly, there’s people that probably don’t. But, most of us auto enthusiasts do. Obviously, only time will tell if it will happen… or not. Regardless, expect a possible Bugatti unveil at an upcoming auto show… maybe. Furthermore, manufacturers are moving into a greener, fully electric future. So, using electricity to help power this vehicle is basically a requirement. And, the market has already shown electric vehicles (EVs) are popular. Although, some people may need help moving on from their gasoline engine. But many drivers are already ready and willing to do so.

How Could This Happen!?
On March 12, 2019, the Italian cargo ship “Grande America” was carrying a shipment of over 2,000 European cars across the Atlantic. Unfortunately, the ship sank off of the French Atlantic coast. All of the 27 crew members are thankfully all ok. But the vehicles are lost at the bottom of the ocean. Furthermore, this shipment’s load includes four Porsche 911 GT2 RS models. With a value of $293,200.00 USD MSRP, that’s over 1 million worth of RS models! How could this happen!? Well, there was a fire that broke out on the ship, damaging the ship enough to sink it. So, even if the ship were to not have sunk, the vehicles were most likely a lost cause either way. In all honesty, as even Audi and Porsche would probably agree, the lives of the people outweigh saving any of the 2k cars. But the story doesn’t stop there!
Porsche Restarts Production of 911 GT2 RS
Due to the circumstances, Porsche will restart production of the 911 GT2 RS models to deliver the four units. Now, that’s how a top-notch company takes care of its customers. A Customer of Porsche Brazil sent a letter to Carscoops showing this information. As per the other Porsche vehicles on the ship, there are quite a few on the list. This includes the Boxter, Cayenne, and Cayman. But, the ship didn’t only have Porsche models. Audi was using the ship as well to deliver many vehicles. The non-confirmed list includes the Audi A3, A5, RS4, RS5, and Q7.
Now, to make it worse, the ship loss includes RS4 and RS5 models. Hopefully, the ship and the manufacturers were using insurance on this shipment. Imagine the disappointment after waiting 3 months for a vehicle order. Then, finding out its sitting at the bottom of the ocean. Wow. Hopefully, everyone receives the right car at some point within the next few months. It seems Porsche is hustling along with their orders, so Audi will probably do the same.
A Rare Occurrence on the Ocean Blue
On the ocean blue, ships sinking are a rare occurrence. Especially, cargo ships and cruise liners that travel the world every day. Right now, there are ships arriving and departing mostly every continent. Maybe not as often from Antarctica, but people still live there at research facilities and so forth. So, deliveries are necessary for survival. Either way, this happening is definitely a shock to the manufacturers and customers alike. From experience, ordering a car from the manufacturer with a delivery date is an amazing adventure. So, it’s great news that the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will go back into production. In conclusion, Porsche deserves a tip of the hat for their willingness to satisfy customers.
The Worldwide Upcoming EV Surge
Over the next decade, many manufacturers intend to increase EV production tenfold. Companies such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even supercar manufacturers are following the trend. Why? Because it leads to faster, more efficient vehicles. While being friendly to the environment, these cars perform better than the predecessors. This may not be something that motorheads want to hear, but it’s true. The electrical engine provides instantaneous power and a ton of torque. This is why Tesla has such fast vehicles, faster than many sports and supercars on the market for a margin the price. So, aiming towards Porsche – will the Taycan convert Porsche to design more EVs? Well, in all honesty… probably.
Basic Facts About the Stunning Taycan
Initially, the Porsche Taycan was known as the “Mission E” during the concept phase. To understand better, Taycan stands for “lively young horse” in the Eurasian language. On the other hand, this car is a fully electric 4-seater sports sedan. Between two permanent magnet synchronous motors (PSMs), this car produces over 600 horsepower. With a 800-Volt charging system, this car won’t take too long to fill up. From 0 to 60 mph, this car takes around 3.5 seconds. It may not be as fast as the best Tesla sedan, but close enough. Overall, the Taycan is an amazing leap forward in Porsche technology.
Demand for the Taycan is Insane!
Due to the strong demand in the market, Porsche is moving up the Taycan production to over 20,000 units per year. Yes, that is read correctly. This car is taking the market by storm with tons and tons of reservations. Although it is quite expensive at $130,000, it is possible to obtain tax incentives due to buying or leasing an electric vehicle. This amounts for up to $7,500, but there’s no guarantee – so contact an accountant for more info! Due to the popularity of this model, don’t be surprised to see an electric Boxster, Cayenne, Cayman, Macan, or 911 at this point. Although the 911 breathes via an amazing 6-cylinder engine, an EV version would be a beast. Imagine this much power within a tinier sports car. It would probably reach 60 mph in closer to 3 seconds without a doubt. In conclusion, the Taycan is extremely popular and will lead Porsche to reconsider the EV pathway.
Satellites Orbit Earth Non-Stop 24/7
High above our heads, a network of about 30 satellites continually orbit the earth. The US government initially put the system in place for military use. Today, it’s used by military and civilians alike to drive our auto navigation systems.
Somebody Is Always Watching
No matter where you are on the planet, at least four satellites can “see” you at any time. Each one continually receives and transmits data to and from units on Earth. A receiving unit might be a SatNav, mobile phone, or GPS.
The auto navigation system in your car continually sends and receives radio signals from those four satellites with eyes on you. Three of the radio waves are used to triangulate your location, and the fourth helps verify the accuracy of the data.
Once the auto navigation unit “knows” where you are, it uses software to place your image on a map. This image shows on the display that you see inside your car.
The Development of Auto Navigation
Before 2000, the government kept the civilian and military navigation systems separate. The data used by US forces could pinpoint a location within 22 meters. The civilian version was much less accurate. It was about five times less precise. This discrepancy kept the public from picking up on military data.
However, in 2000, the civilian population gained access to more accurate data by executive order. It was after that order that auto navigation began to take off.

Today, it’s possible for car navigation systems to determine your location within 13 meters. They can also send, receive, and process data so fast, that the process is virtually seamless. In fact, the process is becoming precise enough to allow the development of self-navigating cars.

One Supercar Brand Says “No” to SUVs
In recent years, supercar brands such as Ferrari and Lamborghini have decided to venture into the SUV market. This has been a surprise for many, unlike when Bentley or Rolls-Royce jumped ship. Regardless, even Aston Martin and Lotus are planning SUV models for the market. But, one major supercar company is saying no. McLaren intends to avoid the SUV market, unlike the competition. So, there will be no McLaren SUV arriving in the future. Honestly, avoiding the SUV market is a reasonable option, especially with the pure competition going on between the other companies now.
CEO Mike Flewitt’s Interview with Automotive News
Recently, McLaren’s CEO Mike Flewitt spoke with Automotive News about this exact topic. From the conversation, a McLaren SUV seems completely off the table.
”I’m not against SUVs… They are just not what McLaren does.” – Statement by McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt
This statement makes it clear that McLaren does not vision itself as a SUV company. Within reasonable observance, this statement is true. McLaren succeeds largely at creating vehicles in the supercar realm. Hence, staying within that will allow McLaren to spend more resources on what matters, the newest models to its fleet.
”When we decide to do a product there are three simple tests: It has to be right for the brand and right for the customer base, we’ve got to have the technology to do the best car in class, and we’ve got to make money… An SUV starts to reduce the purity of the brand as a supercar driver’s brand. Secondly, we don’t have the technology. Can you imagine from a standing start if we wanted to go out and do a better car than a Range Rover, or a Cayenne – the billions we’d have to invest? Third, therefore, is we wouldn’t make any money. So, it doesn’t tick any box.” – Statement by McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt
Obviously, from these remarks, CEO Mike Flewitt doesn’t see a McLaren SUV as a reasonable investment. Firstly, the car is not right for their brand or clientele. Secondly, McLaren feels it will degrade their supercar basis. Thirdly, McLaren doesn’t have or want the technology needed to build a SUV from scratch. Avoiding billions in investment isn’t a bad thing, as this will allow McLaren to invest otherwise. Regardless, there will be plenty of other supercar or ultra-luxury SUVs to choose from.
But… What About Electric Vehicles?
Unlike never owning a McLaren SUV, it will be possible to own a McLaren EV in the future. Not surprisingly, McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt is for EVs. But, McLaren will need a lot of preparation work in the battery creation realm.
”A McLaren EV has got to be usable… It shouldn’t be that we offer a powertrain solution that compromises. It won’t just be lower emissions, it’ll be a better sports car. We’ve set ourselves half an hour full-on track use. You need to be able to do that without recharge, and when you come in and recharge it needs to recharge in 30 minutes.” – Statement by McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt
McLaren aims to bring an EV to market, but first, it must be reliable on the track. Not only will they offer lower emissions but aim to build a better car. The goal is to allow a driver 30 minutes of track intensive driving before having to charge for 30 minutes. So, downtime may be a bit longer than simply filling a tank, but electrical wise, this is a very high expectation. Building a battery like this will take high investment, research and development, and more. It most likely will not happen, but companies such as Tesla seem to have a hold on this, so maybe reaching out for some co-operative work isn’t a bad idea… or maybe it is?
No to McLaren SUV, Yes to McLaren EV

Overall, the decision to avoid a McLaren SUV is reasonable, without a doubt. On the other hand, entering the EV market is a must. An EV will allow McLaren to retain full supercar status while offering a modern take on technology. By avoiding an SUV, McLaren saves billions in investment funding as well as headaches. First generation SUVs tend to arrive with problems, such as the Cayenne 10 years ago. Regardless of this decision, plenty of SUV options will be readily available by Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and even Lotus. In conclusion, McLaren’s decision to avoid SUVs wasn’t really a surprise anyway.
