The Lamborghini Countach is an outrageous legend of a sports car. The Countach is a mid-engine V12 sport scar with RWD. Production for this vehicle occurred from 1974 to 1990 with 2,049 models. The assembly plant was located in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. The designer for the Countach was Marcelo Gandini at Bertone. As with most cars of the period, the Countach sports a 5-speed manual transmission. The predecessor of the Countach is the Miura while the successor is the Diablo.

The Lamborghini Countach was built in a multitude of models including the LP400, LP400 S, LP500 Prototype, LP500 S, LP500 Turbo S, LP500 Quattrovalvole, 25th Anniversary edition, and Evoluzione Prototype. Each of these models have different figures for horsepower and torque. Rather than going over a specific model, this article will take a look at each of the above vehicle’s performance numbers. Each of the models contains the Countach V12 but each has minor differences that alter performance. The initial prototype has the Miura V12 engine while later models have an engine alteration.

Lamborghini Countach LP400 and LP400 s

The Lamborghini Countach LP400 has 440 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. Next, the LP400 S offers 350 horsepower and 263 lb.-ft. of torque. This is 90 horsepower less than the base LP400 but only 3 lb.-ft. less. The LP400 and LP400 S sport the same 3,929 cc engine. Basically, the S seems to denote a less powerful option, surprisingly.

Next, the Lamborghini Countach LP500 Prototype sports 440 horsepower and 330 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the same horsepower as the LP400 but the torque is higher by 64 lb.-ft.. The LP500 S has 370 horsepower and 308 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the same discrepancy of lower horsepower and torque on the S model as the 400 level. The LP500 Prototype has a 4,971 cc motor while the LP500 S has only 4,754 cc.

The Lamborghini Countach LP500 Turbo S Prototype has a 4,754 cc engine that produces a whopping 736 horsepower and 646 lb.-ft. of torque. This car is a beast in comparison to the previous 4 vehicles, and the most powerful model of the Countach line-up. Next, the Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV and the 25th Anniversary edition both contain the same 5,167 cc motor. Both the 5000 QV and the 25th Anniversary edition have 450 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. Obviously, the major difference is that the 25th Anniversary edition is mean’t to celebrate 25 years of the Countach’s existence.

Lamborghini Countach Evoluzione Prototype

The last model to discuss is the Lamborghini Countach Evoluzione Prototype. This vehicle has a 5,167 cc engine with 450 horsepower and an estimated 369 lb.-ft. of torque. Please note, the torque is an estimation and guess based on the previous models. As a prototype, there is less information available for this vehicle. Each of the above Countach models has its own appearance or performance alterations that differentiate from the others.

In the 1980s, Lamborghini produced the Jalpa in the city of Bolognese in Italy. At a limitation of 410 units, this car is quite rare today. The Lamborghini Jalpa is a 2-door Targa with a transverse mid-engine and RWD. Under Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A, this car had its debut at the 1981 Geneva Motor Show. Before the Jalpa, there is the Lamborghini Silhouette. Afterwards, the company began production of its successor – the Gallardo. Either way, the Jalpa is quite a unique entry sports car.

Most noteworthy, the Lamborghini Jalpa sports a 3.5-liter Lambo V8. This motor produces 255 horsepower and 225 lb.-ft. of torque. In combo with a 5-speed synchromesh manual, it reaches 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. From 0 to 100 mph, it takes 19.1 seconds. Furthermore, on the quarter mile, this car reaches the end in 15.4 seconds at 92 mph. For the time, this car is comparable with the entry level Ferrari 328.

Although, magazines observed different numbers under their tests. Classic & Sports Car magazine stated a 60-mph time of 6.8 seconds and a 100-mph time of 16 seconds. But, on the other hand, Car & Driver witnessed a 0 to 60 mph time of only 5.8 seconds. Maybe conditions and driver played a big role in this outcome… for better, or worse. Either way, the car is not too far off from 6 seconds.

Lamborghini had many great vehicles in the past, now classics. The Lamborghini Jalpa is no exception. The car has a unique design with a Lamborghini V8 engine. The interior fits the period and the engine is a Lambo masterpiece. Although not fast in today’s standards, this car was a beast in its time period. Either way, who wouldn’t want to drive this car on a mountainside cruise? Most people know the Countach, but there are other awesome classic Lamborghinis out there too! In conclusion, the Jalpa is a Lambo classic that’ll probably become more collectible with time.
