In the 1990 Formula 1 season, Ferrari used the 641, also known as the F1-90. This Formula 1 racing car was the main vehicle of the Ferrari racing team for the entirety of the season. The Ferrari 641’s design is by Enrique Scalabroni and Steve Nichols. Furthermore, Steve Nichols was a McLaren designer who helped the project. With 6 wins during the 1990 Formula 1 season, the Ferrari 641 was competitive with McLaren, but at 10 horsepower less. At high speed, the 641 held its ground regardless of the power difference.

The Ferrari 641 Formula 1 race car was built with a race worthy chassis and suspension. Firstly, the 641’s chassis comprimes a Kevlar and carbon fiber composite monocoque. Next, the suspension differs slightly in the front and rear. Both the front and the rear contain anti-roll bars, double wishbones, and telescopic shock absorbers. In the front, there is push-rod actuated torsion bar springs. On the other end, in the rear, there is push-rod actuated coil springs. Surprisingly, only one 641 chassis is non existent today due to destruction in testing. Lastly, while two remain in museums, four are privately owned by collectors.

This Ferrari 641 article is basically a throwback to the 1990 Formula 1 Racing season. Although this vehicle was not the best race car on the track, it still won 6 races. One of these vehicles was also in a famous collision at the Japanese Grand Prix with the McLaren race car. The Ferrari 641 and the McLaren battled it out frequently for whom was the best car. Regardless of who was better, both cars deserve respect from car enthusiasts worldwide. Ferrari F50: A Formula 1 Sports Car

The Legendary Ferrari F50

The Ferrari F50 is an equivalent of a F-1 engined road car. From its unique styling to its racing design, the F50 is a collector’s dream. The F50 was produced from 1995 to 1997 by Ferrari with only 349 models built total. As expected, the designer is Pininfarina and it was assembled in Maranello, Italy. To no surprise, the F50 is loaded with Ferrari goodies.

4.7-Liter DOHC V12 (513 Horsepower)

The Ferrari F50 sports a 4.7-liter DOHC V12 producing 513 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. of torque. The F50 V12 has no trouble redlining at 8,500 rpm with a fuel cut-off at 8,640 rpm. This car also features a Bosch Motronic 2.7 ECU system. The ECU controls fuel feed, ignition timing, and variable length intake and exhaust systems. By variable exhaust and intake, Ferrari means a butterfly valve that is closed at low rpm and open at high rpm.

Although the F50 is a beautiful implementation of engineering, the mileage is lacking, as expected. The F50 gets only 7 mpg in the city and 10 mpg on the highway, defining a true gas guzzler. Usually, these cars don’t rack up miles, so this usually isn’t a concern. As a collector’s car, the F50 is usually displayed in a showroom of sports cars in a private collection. The truth is, how could you possibly not drive this beautiful car?

Overall, the Ferrari F50 defines a F-1 road car. The F50 is able to hit 60 mph in only 3.7 seconds and complete a quarter mile in 10.7 seconds at 125 mph. Top speed of this beauty is 202 mph. The initial MSRP of the F50 was $417,000. Now, the F50 sells for between $2 and $3 million USD. This road incorporates 99 hairpin turns on 7 miles of mountainside road. Usually, this road is strictly in use by ECO buses. Furthermore, to reach the summit, there is a 999-step staircase. This staircase leads to “Heaven’s Gate”, a natural rock arch in the mountainside. Mythically, this location is thought to be where the mortal world comes into contact with the world of the gods.

To complete the 2018 Range Rover Sport Dragon Challenge, the company decided to use driver Ho-Pin Tung. He is a Le Mans 24 Hours winner and driver for the Jaguar Formula E Racing team. The first step was to tackle Tianmen Mountain Road’s 7-miles of 99 hairpin turns. In Terrain Response 2 mode, the SUV maneuvers better, allowing to complete it with ease. But, that was not the major challenge. The largest challenge was tackling the 45-degree angle of the 999 step staircase to “Heaven’s Gate”. In Mud and Ruts mode, the Sport was able to accomplish this feat. This made the Range Rover Sport the first car that made it to “Heaven’s Gate” in only 22 minutes and 41 seconds.

After such a feat by Range Rover, it is only a certain amount of time before contenders step up to the plate. Obviously, this depends if China officials allow it to take place again. The 2018 Range Rover Sport Dragon Challenge is quite impressive, showing the capabilities of the SUV. With many different modes, the Sport can handle everything from hairpin turns to off-road adventures. Although it is a bit pricey, this car is definitely worth it for those who can afford it. The Maserati Levante was aimed at the Sports level of market, but probably can’t accomplish this type of feat. But, nobody truly knows, so maybe they should try it sometime. At 1,760 lbs., the caravans didn’t stop the Aston Martins from a track day. Fortunately, the cars and drivers survived… unfortunately, the caravans did not.

Originally, this vehicle was called the Nebula which is an acronym for Newey, Red Bull, and Aston Martin. Although, the final code name was AM-RB 001 which stands for Aston Martin-Red Bull 001. Once it was time to hit production, the vehicle title became Valkyrie. Valkyrie is a word in relation to Scandinavian mythology. It stands for the beautiful twelve handmaidens of Odin who conducted the slain warriors of their choice from the battlefield of Valhalla.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro is a track-version Valkyrie with only 25 models total in production which are sold. The engine on the AMR Pro will have a lot more power due to battery and engine tunings. The battery power will remain the same but the functionality will be in a racing sense. As per the engine, it will have a better tune to produce more power all-around.

The Porsche LMP Team No. 2 Porsche 919 Hybrid is a sports-prototype racing car. This vehicle’s design is for competitive racing in the Le Mans Prototype 1-Hybrid (LMP1-H) category of the FIA World Championship. The development of the 919 Hybrid began in 2012 and continued into 2013. The 919 Hybrid made its first debut at the 2016 6 Hours of Silverstone in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, the 919 Hybrid was discontinued at the end of 2017 to allow Porsche to focus on Formula E. Furthermore, Porsche isn’t the only manufacturer to back out of this category. Similarly, Audi also sent shockwaves through the Le Mans community as it has left the category as well.

2.0-Liter 4-Cylinder Turbocharged Engine with 900 Horsepower

The Porsche 919 Hybrid sports a 2.0-liter direct-injection 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a battery-based hybrid system. This motor configuration produces a whopping 900 horsepower and 1,100 lb.-ft. of torque… phew! The 4-cylinder engine may seem small but in combination with the lithium-ion electric battery hybrid system, this car is a beast. For the transmission, Porsche uses a seven-speed hydraulically-activated sequential gearbox with a rear-lock differential. Another benefit to performance is the carbon fiber composite chassis with it’s honeycomb aluminum core. Furthermore, for the front and rear suspension, the 919 Hybrid utilizes an independent multi-link pushrod configuration with adjustable shock absorbers.

The Porsche 919 Hybrid is a legendary sports-prototype in the World Endurance Championship series. Overall, the 919 Hybrid has performed in 36 races with 16 wins, 36 podium appearances, 11 poles, and 4 fastest laps. Most noteworthy, this vehicle won the World Endurance Championship in 2015, 2016, and 2017. In it’s first year, the 919 Hybrid merely missed 1st and 2nd place obtaining a 3rd place placement. In the car’s second season, it is estimated that the car contains 85-90% new parts. As a result, this change also alters the class of the vehicle from 6MJ to 8MJ.
