At Auto Shanghai 2019, Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz made a concept debut to the public. The Mercedes-Benz Concept GLB is being marketed as a “spacious and robust” compact SUV. So… this may make some people wonder, why so many Benz SUVs? Well, the GLB is part of a long chain of high-quality German engineering by Benz to capture the SUV market. Prior to the GLB, Mercedes has sold 6 million SUVs to customers worldwide.

In 2018 alone, SUVs were the strongest segment of the manufacturer with 820,000 units sold. So, Mercedes is simply following a trend of popularity with their SUVs.

Turbo Four-Cylinder Engine with 221 Horsepower

Under the hood, the Concept GLB sports a 4-cylinder turbo engine. This motor boasts 221 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. For the size of this car, this is a reasonable amount of power. Especially, since there will most likely be an AMG version. But that is likely a year or 2 down the road. The amount of torque backs up the vehicle’s off-road style and vision.

Just as the GLA, this car will most likely have a speed and price aimed at the entry SUV market. But, it’ll probably be a bit more pricey than the GLA, and include enough seating space for 7 occupants. Furthermore, it should be cheaper than the GLC. Lastly, don’t forget about the larger GLE or GLS. Phew! Thinking about it, that’s a lot of dang SUVs!

The Mercedes Concept GLB is a pretty awesome vehicle. To top off its SUV body styling, this vehicle also contains high quality Benz technology. Firstly, there are the MULTIBEAM LED headlamps on the frontend, giving it a very modern fascia. Next, there is the MBUX entertainment system, which is also called Mercedes-Benz User Experience. There’s also hints of off-road styling inside to complement the vehicle itself. Overall, the GLB seems like it will sell well on the worldwide market… it’s compact but serves a multi-purpose.

Next-Gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Includes Gigantic Touchscreen

Next-Gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Includes Gigantic Touchscreen

The Next-Gen S-Class

For the 2021 model year, Mercedes-Benz will introduce a new S-Class to the market. Always the technological flagship of the brand, the next-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will surely offer the newest tech. Currently undergoing tests, it’s codename is “W223”. The vehicle is in camouflage and even the interior has covers to prevent spy shots. But, in reality, spy shots definitely help attract attention to these cars. One of the most noticeable features in the screens. There appears to be a massive screen behind the steering wheel. On top of this, and more importantly, there is a gigantic touchscreen at the center console. This screen is so massive that it takes up a majority of the space. Obviously, this follows in the steps of Tesla, where some people are mistakenly pulled over by police thinking it’s a computer… it has happened!

Visible Aspects of Touchscreen

The next-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class seems to be an amazing car. As always, Mercedes will attempt to offer the crème of the crop with these vehicles. With a starting price usually close to $100,000, this car will be no exemption. But, let’s jump into those screens. The driver dashboard screen seems to display information such as a speedometer and tachometer. Furthermore, there will most likely be information such as navigation, radio, and more. Surely, there will also be voice commands, and probably even movement commands.

On the center console, there is a gigantic touchscreen in the next-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This gigantic touchscreen follows in the steps of Tesla. With the increase in driving automation and tech, this car will surely be safe to drive. This screen will display probably most aspects of the vehicle. At the bottom of the screen, there are physical buttons. These seem to be for specific main tasks, such as active-safety features, audio volume, driving modes, hazards, and the infotainment home button. Due to the cloth at the top, it is unknown if there is something hidden under there. This will also most likely feature content such as surround view parking cameras and more.

Who’s Ready for the Next-Gen?

2021 Mercedes S-class w223 spied for the first time – OldBenz – YouTube

Well… with this info, who’s ready for the next-gen? Mercedes-Benz S-Class drivers will either love it or hate it. Mercedes is known for being elegant while lagging behind in technology in the past, whereas it seems to be caught up, and moving ahead nowadays. Obviously, this is a good thing. If tech is important to you, then upgrading your current S-Class to this should be a goal. These cars are amazing for daily commuting, or even being driven around. Unfortunately, most people don’t get to enjoy the luxurious S-Class. But, maybe the doors will be unlocked at an auto show near you to hop in and take a look! In the end, the next-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is quite a tech spectacle.

On Thursday, January 3, 2019, a series of unfortunate events occurred in Los Angeles, California. A driver was attempting to park a Mercedes-Benz G-Class on the 3rd story of a garage. Unfortunately, the driver hit the gas instead of the brakes. From here, chaos began to unfold right before everyone’s eyes. According to ABC7 Los Angeles, the vehicle drove through a floor-to-ceiling glass wall and plummeted to the street below. Yes, this car fell 3 stories right into the street of LA. Landing on its roof, the driver is lucky to be alive. The event took place on the 5400 block of Tujunga Avenue, near Magnolia Boulevard.

The Driver is in Stable Condition

Thankfully, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is now in stable condition. At first, it was questionable as the driver was critically injured from the fall. The last statement by Los Angeles Police Department was that the driver was “alert and talking”. LAPD has ruled out DUI, so the driver will most likely walk away with no charges. But, possibly a battle with the parking garage company and it’s insurance. As everyone knows, neither of them will want to cover the driver’s damages to the structure.

”How Could This Happen?”

Driver Survives After SUV Flies Off 3rd Story of Parking Garage, Lands Upside Down – CBS Los Angeles – YouTube

A question many people may have on mind is, “how could this happen?”. Well, incidents in parking lots occur all the time. Just as driving on the road, parking isn’t free of incidents. On a daily basis, cars are bumped about in cities worldwide. Sometimes, people mistakenly hit the wrong peddle. Unfortunately, this time, the driver didn’t have enough time to correct the issue. Sometimes, people get lucky and avoid accidents. In conclusion, although the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is most likely irreparable, the driver is okay.

Mercedes-Benz to Unveil Next-Gen CLA at CES 2019

A New Generation for the CLA

With the fresh upcoming year of 2019, manufacturers will introduce technology that’ll be the anticipation of the next decade. At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mercedes-Benz plants to unveil the next-gen CLA. Not surprisingly, a few other vehicles will be on display at the Benz CES booth, all new to the United States. Mercedes intends to showcase the most technologically advanced automobiles it has ready to unveil. With the date approaching, Mercedes shared a teaser as seen at the top of the article. This is the roofline of the new CLA. The car should look like an a-class with a 4-door, coupe roof style setup.

Hopes for the Next-Gen CLA

With the next-gen CLA, the first hope is for better rear headroom. Previously, this car was known for rear headroom issues. Furthermore, this car will sport the MBUX infotainment system. This provides the driver with AI-powered assistance. This includes language commands as well as “identifies operation requests on basis of movements”. This statement seems to mean that the driver will be able to use hand or body motion to control the vehicle. This is not new, as BMW seems to be onto the same project.

The CLA Won’t Be Alone!

Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) World Premiere | CES 2018 – Mercedes-Benz – YouTube

With the next-gen CLA, Mercedes plans to display the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV. On top of that, the Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic Concept will be there too. The EQC electric SUV aims to offer customers with 402 horsepower and 564 lb.-ft. of torque. Furthermore, the electric batteries shall allow it to drive for around 280 miles before requiring recharge. It won’t be surprising if Benz begins to offer hybrid versions of typical cars, including the CLA. With the upcoming decade of 2020 to 2030, manufacturers will probably make the shift to hybrids and EVs. In conclusion, anyone in attendance at CES 2019 should be looking for the Mercedes booth!

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG: A Gull-Wing Masterpiece

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG: A Gull-Wing Masterpiece

The Original SLS AMG 2-Door Coupe

From January 2010 to January 2014, Daimler AG produced the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 2-door coupe. The base version of this car ranges in model year from 2011 to 2015. The original assembly was at a location in Sindelfingen, Germany. The 2-door SLS AMG coupe is an FMR layout with a transaxle. The biggest designation of the SLS is the gull-wing doors. But, there is a lot more to this car than it’s aesthetically pleasing exterior.

But, at these speeds, the car can still terrify those afraid of quick accelerations. In the event of a rollover, the SLS AMG doors contain explosive bolts that sense a rollover to separate for ease of exiting. This is an important aspect of racing in this car, as being stuck inside could be deadly. Fortunately, Mercedes is usually ahead of the game when it comes to safety. This may help those with worries about this car on the road.

Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic: An Autonomous Van Concept

Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic: An Autonomous Van Concept

An All-Electric Autonomous Van

As life moves into the future, brands such as Mercedes-Benz are attempting to shape the way for humanity. Recently, the Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic was shown to the public. The Urbanetic is an autonomous van concept that runs on battery-electric. The purpose of this vehicle is to help reduce congestion via a 24/7 runtime for passenger hauling services. With the Urbanetic, Mercedes aims to contribute to a whole new segment of mobility. This includes a capacious, comfortable, efficient, and sustainable design. But, this car, truly begins its prowess from its battery-electric platform.

Battery-Electric Platform Design

Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic – People-Mover Setup – Hauling Riders on Bridge – Manufacturer Picture – EuroDrift

The Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic begins with its battery-electric platform. This system is the way of the future and provides green commuting accessibility. With a battery system, the car can run on a regular schedule, simply charging every time it is necessary. As battery-operated vehicles become more popular, the battery charging time has dissipated. Recently, the all-electric Audi PB18 e-tron made its debut as a sports car to charge in 15 minutes flat via 800-volts. Obviously, quick charging will be necessary to make this van concept worthy of transportation purposes. But, even furthermore, is the fact this car can alternate between cargo and people-moving within minutes.

Cargo-Van Body Functionality

Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic - Cargo-Van Setup - Front Corner - Manufacturer Picture - EuroDrift

Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic – Cargo-Van Setup – Front Corner – Manufacturer Picture – EuroDrift

With the Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic, the functionality can be altered for multiple purposes. This begins with a cargo-van functionality option. The rear of the van can provide 353 cubic feet of space. This allows for 10 pallets at once, obviously wit the help of 12-feet of load space. So, this van can handle traditional cargo transport as well as last-minute deliveries. But, this isn’t the only way the space can be allocated for usage. Not surprisingly, this car also features a people-moving function as well.

From Cargo-Van to People-Mover

Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic - People-Mover Setup - Front Corner - Manufacturer Picture - EuroDrift

The Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic not only allows for cargo usage, but also people transport. With the large allotment of space in the rear, this vehicle can handle up to 12 people. Furthermore, this car keeps in mind the pedestrians outside of the vehicle. On the front and sides, this car lets civilians know that the vehicle is aware of their presence. This allows bystanders to feel comfortable crossing in front of the vehicle at an intersection. So, while keeping passengers comfy, it is also keeping pedestrians safe. It won’t be surprising in the future when services such as “Uber Pool” end up providing a Urbanetic-style van to transport people at cheap rates.

Autonomy & Electric are the Future

Mercedes-Benz Vision URBANETIC: Mobility for Urban Areas – Mercedes-Benz – YouTube

As the Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic shows, autonomy and electric motors are the future. From the Audi PB18 e-tron to the Vision Urbanetic, manufacturers are moving forward to the next stage of auto engineering. Initially, Tesla led the way for worldwide companies, but now everyone is joining in on the action. What was once a quiet, unsure market, is now the way for all. The sound of the motor may be missed, but will still be available, as gasoline cars will most likely never be fully outlawed. Regardless, transportation will become efficient and reasonable moving forward. One day, these type of vehicles will rotate major cities, running passengers to destinations far and wide.

The Jurassic Park Mercedes-Benz SUVs

If you’ve seen The Lost World: Jurassic Park movie, you may have noticed the Mercedes-Benz SUVs throughout the film. For the expedition to Isla Sorna, InGen builds three customized 1997 Mercedes-Benz ML320 SUVs. The purpose of these vehicles is to drive and navigate the island for transporting equipment. This equipment mostly consists of camera and study items. The nicknames for the three vehicles are: AAV Fontana, AAV Montana, and AAV Santana. Unfortunately, the Montana was left behind in this film. Regardless, these vehicles “shine bright like a diamond” through the film.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park Movie

The Lost World: Jurassic Park Official Trailer #1 – Jeff Goldblum Movie (1997) – Jurassic Park Fansite – YouTube

The film The Lost World: Jurassic Park was released on May 19, 1997 by director Steven Spielberg. This 1997 film was able to reach a box office value of 618.6 million USD on a 73 million USD budget. Furthermore, at 2 hours and 9 minutes, this film provides quite a look into InGen’s invasion of Isla Sorna. One main reason for their invasion is to capture dinosaurs to display at an amphitheater zoo in San Diego. Dr. Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum, thinks this is a terrible idea, and he isn’t far from being correct. Over the film, the entire process turns into a disaster leading up to a t-rex invasion of San Diego. With such a large box office value, the film unfortunately didn’t receive amazing reviews, with a rating of 6.5/10 by IMDb.

For the film, the three 1997 Mercedes-Benz ML320 SUVs were customized with a ton of aftermarket components. Each of three vehicles have the following options:

  • Camouflage Paint
  • Custom Step Bars
  • Fog Lights
  • Front Bull Bars
  • Front Tow Cable
  • Leather Seats
  • Rear Taillight Guards
  • Winch
  • 4-Wheel Drive

These features provide the basis for the overall vehicles before the additional options differentiate the three 320s. Next, each vehicle will be discussed pointing out the additional features that distinguish them individually from the others. The AAV Fontana, AAV Montana, and AAV Santana all have features that provide them slightly different advantages in varying situations.

For the 1997 Mercedes-Benz ML320 AAV Fontana, the car has quite a few additional features. These features include:

  • Additional Round Bubble Top
  • Bottom & Top Hang on Jerry Cans
  • Bubble Window Roof
  • Duel Mounted Side Mirror Search Lights
  • Grey Interior
  • Mounted Side Lights
  • Protective Bars

For the AAV Montana, the options differ slightly than the AAV Fontana. The AAV Montana’s enhancements include:

  • Bubble Window Roof
  • Duel Grab Bars on Rear Sides
  • Duel Mounted Side Mirror Searchlights
  • Grey Interior
  • Hood Mounted Carrier
  • Extra Wheel Top Mounted
  • Mounted Door Guard Panes
  • Protective Bars

Lastly, the AAV Santana had the least amount of additional options. These features include:

  • Aluminum Interior
  • Bottom Mounted Hang on Jerry Cans
  • Cut Out Backside
  • Mounted Light Bar

Each of these vehicles serves a slightly different purpose due to their features. Unfortunately, two of these vehicles were destroyed during the film. Luckily, for the AAV Montana, it remained safe in the InGen gatherers equipment facility.

Unfortunately, the AAV Fontana and AAV Santana didn’t remain safe during the film. While attempting to fix a young tyrannosaurus rex’s leg, two adult T. rexes show up. As this occurs, the AAV Fontana ML320 is hurtled off the cliff. However, the T. rex adults don’t stop there… the entire trailer containing Ian, Nick, & Sarah is pushed about halfway over the cliff. This causes the characters to fall and eventually dangle from a rope. This rope is set up by Eddie who drives the AAV Santana to the scene. Unfortunately, for Eddie, the two T. rex adults return, and he doesn’t survive, and neither does the Santana.

Overall, The Lost World: Jurassic Park is a great movie. Critics may not agree, but if you’re a fan of dinosaurs, you’re missing out if you haven’t seen it. Furthermore, the 1997 Mercedes-Benz ML320 SUVs were a perfect match for the movie. These vehicles are built for adventures and the outdoors, so their arrival on Isla Sorna isn’t a surprise. Even though the AAV Fontana and Santana didn’t survive, the AAV Montana is still alive! Long live the Jurassic Park Mercedes-Benz SUV!

2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter: The New V-Class?

The All New 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

For the 2018 model year, Mercedes-Benz will be introducing a facelifted Sprinter, also to be known as the V-Class. The last update occurred in 2014, so this vehicle has some new modern features. There have been spy shots of the vehicle in testing showing a new front and interior. This time, it will not share a platform or body with the 2018 Volkswagen Crafter. It should make its debut in late 2017 or early 2018.

Engine Basics & Vision Van Concept

With slightly under 200 horsepower, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz V-Class will sport 4WD. There is a view that Mercedes-Benz will likely release a 2.0-liter turbo engine as well as a 3.0-liter V6 motor. There is also talk of a possible electric version due to the Vision Van Concept which sported an electric motor with 100 horsepower. The top speed will be between 80-90 miles per hour and 0 to 60 is expected to take around 11 seconds.

Driver Assist Package & Other Positive Traits

In the vehicle, there will be a driver assist package as well as a few other positive traits. The fuel economy and performance are expected to increase over the previous model. Surprisingly, the United States has the second largest market for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This led to a decision to develop a new plant in Charleston, South Caroline for production of this vehicle. This will increase job availability in the city allowing for a U.S. employed foreign factory. This helps people in need of jobs find positions with a respective company and will also benefit their local economy.

The V-Class May Be The New Sprinter

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, or so called V-Class, should be available within the next 6 months. There is discussion of there different model: cargo, extended cargo, and passenger. The MSRP should be in the low $30k range in U.S. currency. The vehicle should also be able to tow around 5-7.5k pounds. Overall, the new 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will pave the way for modern cargo and passenger vans.
