Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept Car: A Perspective for the Future

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept Car: A Perspective for the Future

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept Car

In 2017, Smart displayed their newest invention at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the form of a musical. Smart is a small vehicle company owned by Daimler AG, the same parent company as Mercedes-Benz. The Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept is a self-driving intelligent vehicle that will be the future of “urban luxury”. Powered by a 30 kilowatt lithium-ion battery, the ForTwo will be fully autonomous. The vehicle will not be personally owned but rather an alternative means of transportation.

The ForTwo Will Analyze Passenger Compatability

The Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept car will pick up passengers on demand. Similar to Uber Pool and Lyft Line, the ForTwo will allow passengers to “split” expenses. The ForTwo will use advanced technology to analyze passengers Facebook pages for compatibility information. Examples of this include music preferences, Facebook likes, and profile information. The first rider can decline the matching option unlike the second rider. If privacy is a concern, the bench seat turns into a two-part barrier.

“…Cars Should Make Use of Themselves…”

The goal of the ForTwo is to have an autonomous, connected, electric, and shareable vehicle. The purpose of this is to reduce emissions, noise pollution, and traffic in the city. “The basic idea is that cars should make use of themselves in the city” said Dieter Zelsche, chairman of Daimler AG’s Board of Management. At level 5 of 5 on the self-driving scale, the ForTwo will pursue the highest automation specs possible. This car fits in the Mercedes-Benz concept to deliver 10 electric vehicles to market by 2020. Although, this vehicle will most likely never make it to the road.

The ForTwo Stores Passenger Preferences

To help passengers identify the vehicle, the headlights can be customized to a specific color for distinguishability. Once the passenger enters the ForTwo, the car will greet the passenger with their profile picture. The ForTwo will also store preferences such as in-car entertainment, places, and routes. When the ForTwo runs low on juice, it will automatically recharge at the closest recharging station. Another unexpected perk is that the ForTwo can connect and feed the grid as a “swarm battery”. Lastly, the side panels of the vehicle can display news, sports scores, time, and weather information while not in motion.

The Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept is the Future

Overall, the Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept car is a vision of the future. From its fully autonomous function to its customizability per passenger, it is a leap forward in the automotive realm. The ForTwo Concept is the type of the vehicle that will inevitably replace the jobs of many drivers worldwide. At this level of technology, the vehicle can provide the feeling that it is your own. In the end, the movement of autonomous vehicles will clearly alter the world from what it is today.

BMW 3-Series Driver Receives 3 Months in Jail for Laser Jammer

BMW 3-Series Driver Receives 3 Months in Jail for Laser Jammer

What? Why? How? Seriously… What?

In recent news within the United Kingdom, a BMW 3-Series driver receives 3 months in jail for using a laser jammer. Yes, that was read correctly. Somehow, someway, a laser jammer can equate to jail time and a stiff fine. Unfortunately, Michael Twizell, 58 of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, learned the hard way. Firstly, laser jammers are illegal as their purpose is to interfere with speed signals. Police and speed cameras use laser to obtain the speed of a vehicle. By disrupting the signal, the driver disallows the police to read a speed. So, obviously, its purpose is to avoid speeding tickets. Hence, the law deciding it illegal to use while driving. So, to rub it in even more, the court decides a fine of $1,900 shall go along with the jail time. Honestly, that just seems quite ridiculous… a fine would’ve been enough in itself. It’s another modern day story of throwing away taxpayer money.

Statements by Traffic Constable Andy Forth

Due to the BMW 3-Series laser jammer jail time debate reaching big news, the Traffic Constable Andy Forth made statements:

“To use a device which is capable of interfering with police speed measurement is clearly as shown today a very serious matter… Drivers may face a custodial sentence for using such a device this way.” – Traffic Constable Andy Forth

So, obviously, the Traffic Constable sees this as a legitimate, serious problem. In the end, it is hard to dispute the use of a laser jammer. Where legal, simply use a laser and radar detector. It’ll offer information on detection. In most places, laser jammers are illegal. So, hence, check local laws and simply buy a detector.

“North Yorkshire Police will continue to investigate similar allegations when people use these devices to interfere with the normal course of justice… I advise anyone who may have a similar device fitted to their vehicle to think about the consequences of using such a device and strongly recommend that they remove it from their vehicle to avoid a future prosecution.”– Traffic Constable Andy Forth

With such strong emphasis on cutting down on laser jammers, it may be smart to disconnect or remove a laser jammer if there’s one installed on a vehicle. The jail time is definitely not worth the risk, it’ll be a less fine to simply speed about daily. But, this is not something EuroDrift promotes or advises. Be sure to follow the legal rules of driving on roads based on location. Cities, states, and countries can have different laws and punishments. Be sure to understand this well before hitting the road!

Jail Time & $1,900 for Laser Jammer

How Radar Detectors & Laser Jammer Work – The Speed Channel – Radar Busters – YouTube

Laser jammers seem like a great decision for a fast driver, but think again. 3 months in jail and a $1,900 fine are definitely not worth it. Why not just follow the speed limit and not worry? Well… many of us can ask the same question but won’t. In reality, a speeding fine is definitely easier to fight in court and cheaper on the pocket. Be sure to understand limits, as passing a certain speed can lead to loss of license and more. But, going 5 mph over the limit will probably not yield this punishment. Some states, such as PA, don’t ticket for up to 5 mph over. But, beyond that, it is a risk. So, speeding in the 720S may seem like a good idea, but save it for the track! Overall, simply put, don’t bother with a laser jammer, just buy a radar detector where legal.

Disclaimer: EuroDrift DOES NOT promote speeding or the use of illegal devices. Be sure to check local laws for speed and device limitations.

Why is Idling the Engine Bad for the Car?

Why is Idling the Engine Bad for the Car?

Bringing the Truth to Reality

In reality, many people still idle the engine of their car to warm it up in the winter. But, is this truly a reasonable idea? Modern science and engineering suggest “no”. So, many may be wondering, why is idling the engine bad for the car? There are three main points to answer this question. Firstly, this is detrimental to modern engine design. Secondly, it is a waste of gasoline. Hence, it is a waste of hard-earned cash. Thirdly, and finally, the environmental damage is real. Truthfully, modern vehicles need less than 10 seconds in cold climates to drive safely. So, why keep warming up the car? Manufacturers such as Porsche will agree.

Deeper Explanation of Three Points

Detrimental to Modern Engine

So, why is idling the engine bad for the car? Let’s begin with a deeper look into each answer. Firstly, it is detrimental to the modern engine. Why? Because these engines can function safely in less than 10 seconds of warming up. Simply put, this is thanks to modern engineering. So, if the car is going to be on idling for more than 10 seconds, shut it off.

Waste of Gasoline

Secondly, idling the car is an epic waste of gasoline. Why throw away hard earned cash? Gasoline equals money, it cannot be purchased without it. Each second that the engine is on, it requires gasoline to operate. The gasoline is ignited in the engine by the spark plugs. This allows for combustion to take place. This combustion is what allows the vehicle to physically move and power itself. Do note, the bigger the engine, the more fuel burns. A V8 will burn more than an I4 in idle.

Environmental Damage

Thirdly, idling the car is bad for the environment. The environment is a necessity in life, without a thriving environment, human life will not thrive. So, why degrade the quality of the planet? Visibly, worldwide, climate change is ruining the planet and human life. Automobile engines produce carbon dioxide, known for damaging the environment. It is a major reason for the entire problem of global warming. Many will argue that it is a lie, or it causes less damage than a cow. But, truthfully, numbers add up. Regardless of other realities and falsities, it’s smarter to only use the engine when necessary. To avoid this, simply buy a modern EV!

Be Smart, Don’t Idle Then Drive!

Americans Have No Idea How Much Fuel Idling Uses – Engineering Explained – YouTube

So, now a question for the reader, why is idling the engine bad for the car? Hopefully, this article provides a clear reason why. Why damage the engine, waste gas, and destroy the environment? Idling the car is a waste of time. This may not be true for older generations of automobiles but is true of modern times. Modern engines use modern engineering, which removes the need for idling. Companies such as BMW allow drivers to start up and drive off in the winter. There’s no need to idle for 2 minutes. In conclusion, simply put – don’t idle a modern vehicle!

Inside the vehicle, the interior is luxurious and contains beautiful technology. The rest of the body flows smoothly, from side to rear. But, hey… those kidney grilles… In the end, only time will tell if BMW made a smart move, or bad move. It’s kind of like playing chess… the right move can win the game, the wrong move can lose it.
