BMW E23 7 Series Limo Drifting at Auto City Speedway in Michigan

BMW E23 7 Series Limo Drifting at Auto City Speedway in Michigan

Drifting BMW E23 7 Series Limo at Auto City Speedway

During the MiDrift Halloween Bash at Auto City Speedway in Michigan, a BMW E23 7 series limo could be seen drifting the course. To the surprise of many, the driver of the E23 limo drifted it magically across the course with the odds stacked against them. The driver, sporting a Lebanese flag and plates, took to the course to show the world his driving skills. As the car skids across the tarmac, the limo shows its drifting capabilities that weren’t expected by anyone. By properly counter-steering and powering the throttle, the limo driver is able to perform quite the show.

BMW E23 7 Series Limo’s Model is a 745 Turbo

The BMW E23 7 Series is basically a modded 745 turbo with an automatic transmission and no limited slip differential. This makes this feat even more surprising and a differential plays the role in many drifting cars success. By counter-steering around 30-40 miles per hour, the limo could be drifted by increasing the speed and “throwing” around the vehicle. For drifting, it is optimal to have rear wheel drive and a manual transmission as well as a 50/50 front to rear ratio. There must be enough power to spin the tires, otherwise the drifts won’t succeed for very long, if at all.

How to Drift a Car: In Simple Terms

To drift a car, the driver needs to first accelerate and shift into a gear with room to rev the vehicle. Second, the driver needs to push in the clutch. Third, the driver needs to use steering to initiate the drift. Fourth, the driver needs to counter-steer and supply gas to maintain the drift. Lastly, the driver needs to manage the throttle to keep going for as long as possible. In the automatic car, the driver does not have the use of a clutch, so it more leans towards steering and throttle. It is unknown if the limo had an e-brake to help initiate the drifting or if the driver is strictly using steering and throttle.

Drifting BMW E23 7 Series Limo is an Epic Feat

Overall, drifting a BMW E23 7 series limo is an epic feat. The audience probably watched in complete awe as the limo skidded across the track. Not many people expect a limo to drift, but it is completely possible. By learning your vehicle, you’ll be able to teach yourself how to drift – as long as its powerful enough. The driver of this 7 series did a great job showing the world how to handle a limo on the track. In the end, watching this 7 series limo drift can be quite entertaining.

2018 Audi RS3 vs. RS4 Avant vs. RS5: Battle of the RS Models

2018 Audi RS3 vs. RS4 Avant vs. RS5: Battle of the RS Models

2018 Audi RS3 vs. RS4 Avant vs. RS5

The 2018 Audi RS3, RS4, and RS5 are popular vehicle considerations for many drivers worldwide. Although slightly different vehicles, they can be seen as slightly competitive with each other. The RS4 is a small sedan while the RS4 is an avant and the RS5 is a coupe. Although these cars vary across MSRP and other factors, they have similarities as well. In this article, we will go over each of the models and their basics.

2018 Audi RS3

First, the 2018 Audi RS3 starts at a MSRP of $54,900. The RS3 sports a 2.5-liter five cylinder engine with 400 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque. With this power, the RS3 can hit 0 to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds. On top of that, the RS3 can hit a whopping 174 mph, if you’re willing to pay Audi for the tune. The RS3 is sold with S sport seats wrapped in Fine Nappa leather with diamond stitching. The RS3 also comes with full LED headlights, magnetic ride, and an average 22 miles per gallon.

2018 Audi RS4 Avant

Second, the 2018 Audi RS4 Avant is expected to cost an estimated $67,685 at MSRP. The RS4 Avant withholds a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine producing 450 horsepower and 443 lb.ft. of torque. Unfortunately, the RS4 Avant will not make its way stateside and will only be sold in Europe. Slightly slower than the RS3, the RS4 Avant can hit 62 mph in only 4.1 seconds – quick for a station-wagon. As with the RS3, the top speed is limited to ~150 mph, or 174 mph if you pay for it. The interior is a slight upgrade from the RS3 but contains a similar style and Fine Nappa cross-stitched seats.

2018 Audi RS5

Third and last, the 2018 Audi RS5 is expected to run between $70,000 and $80,000 statewide while in Europe it is currently 80,900 euros ($85,495). The RS5 contains the same motor as the RS4 Avant, a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine producing 450 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque. Surprisingly, the RS5 can hit 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds, matching the RS3 and faster than the RS4 Avant. The RS5 will have front and rear five-link suspension as well as a few options. The options include a RS sports suspension with adaptive dampers, carbon ceramic breaks, and dynamic steering.

RS Models Stunning Display of German Engineering

Overall, the 2018 Audi RS3, RS4, and RS5 are a stunning display of German engineering. From the RS3’s reasonable price and speed to the RS5’s options, Audi stepped up the game for 2018. The RS3 and the RS5 both hit 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the RS4 Avant. This difference is most likely due to the additional weight of the station wagon design. In the end, the RS model that is right for you comes down to your personal preferences and desires.

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale: 50th Birthday (August 2017)

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale: 50th Birthday (August 2017)

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale’s 50th Birthday

In August 2017, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale celebrated its 50th birthday. The 33 Stradale was originally penned by Franco Scaglione in Italy. Currently, the Museo Storio Museum in Arese, Italy has a 33 Stradale on display. The Italian wording for this year’s celebration was “33 La Bellezza Necessaria” which means “33 Necessary Beauty”. These words fit perfectly with the beauty and timeless appearance of the exterior of the Stradale.

Debut at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza 1967

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was initally designed around the technology of the Tipo 33 race cars. It made its debut at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in August 1967. At this point, Alfa Romeo adapted the Quadrifoglio four-lead clover badge as a symbol of pride. Fortunately for fans, the 33 Stradale was displayed on temporary exhibit for it’s 50th birthday. If you don’t get a chance to see it here, there’s always next time.

33 Stradale’s Chassis Used for Many Concept Vehicles

From the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale’s chassis, there were multiple concept cars designed over the years. These cars include the 33/2 Daytona, 33 SC 12 Turbo, 33TT12, Carabo, and Iguana. There’s a good chance you may have never heard of some or all of the vehicles. But, they were all created by Alfa Romeo on the 33 Stradale’s chassis. Each car had its own styling and purpose, ranging from full out race car to pedestrian concept car.

2.0-Liter V8 Engine with 6-Speed Colotti Manual Transmission

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a rear mid-engine two door vehicle. It was produced from November 1967 to March 1969 and assembled in Milan, Italy. The 33 Stradale sports a 2.0-liter V8 engine couped with a 6-speed Colotti manual transmission. At only 1,543 lbs, this was a very lightweight vehicle with an estimated 230 horsepower. This allows the car to hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, which was quick upon release but can be considered a bit sluggish in modern times. The 33 Stradale has a top speed of 160 mph.

Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is Worth Over $10 Million in Today’s Market

Overall, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a legendary car that hit it’s 50th birthday in August 2017. Initially sold for $17,000 in 1968, the 33 Stradale is worth well over $10 million in current times. As a rare spectacle, many are not fortunate enough to see this beautiful vehicle. For car collectors, this car equates to the dreams of many. In the end, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a beautiful and timeless car that helped shape the way of racing through the years.

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept Car: A Perspective for the Future

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept Car: A Perspective for the Future

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept Car

In 2017, Smart displayed their newest invention at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the form of a musical. Smart is a small vehicle company owned by Daimler AG, the same parent company as Mercedes-Benz. The Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept is a self-driving intelligent vehicle that will be the future of “urban luxury”. Powered by a 30 kilowatt lithium-ion battery, the ForTwo will be fully autonomous. The vehicle will not be personally owned but rather an alternative means of transportation.

The ForTwo Will Analyze Passenger Compatability

The Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept car will pick up passengers on demand. Similar to Uber Pool and Lyft Line, the ForTwo will allow passengers to “split” expenses. The ForTwo will use advanced technology to analyze passengers Facebook pages for compatibility information. Examples of this include music preferences, Facebook likes, and profile information. The first rider can decline the matching option unlike the second rider. If privacy is a concern, the bench seat turns into a two-part barrier.

“…Cars Should Make Use of Themselves…”

The goal of the ForTwo is to have an autonomous, connected, electric, and shareable vehicle. The purpose of this is to reduce emissions, noise pollution, and traffic in the city. “The basic idea is that cars should make use of themselves in the city” said Dieter Zelsche, chairman of Daimler AG’s Board of Management. At level 5 of 5 on the self-driving scale, the ForTwo will pursue the highest automation specs possible. This car fits in the Mercedes-Benz concept to deliver 10 electric vehicles to market by 2020. Although, this vehicle will most likely never make it to the road.

The ForTwo Stores Passenger Preferences

To help passengers identify the vehicle, the headlights can be customized to a specific color for distinguishability. Once the passenger enters the ForTwo, the car will greet the passenger with their profile picture. The ForTwo will also store preferences such as in-car entertainment, places, and routes. When the ForTwo runs low on juice, it will automatically recharge at the closest recharging station. Another unexpected perk is that the ForTwo can connect and feed the grid as a “swarm battery”. Lastly, the side panels of the vehicle can display news, sports scores, time, and weather information while not in motion.

The Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept is the Future

Overall, the Smart Vision EQ ForTwo Concept car is a vision of the future. From its fully autonomous function to its customizability per passenger, it is a leap forward in the automotive realm. The ForTwo Concept is the type of the vehicle that will inevitably replace the jobs of many drivers worldwide. At this level of technology, the vehicle can provide the feeling that it is your own. In the end, the movement of autonomous vehicles will clearly alter the world from what it is today.

2019 Bentley Continental GT: Beautifully Remastered

2019 Bentley Continental GT: Beautifully Remastered

2019 Bentley Continental GT

The 2019 Bentley Continental GT was revealed by Bentley at their headquarters located in Crewe, England. Parked next to a 1953 Bentley R-type Continental Coupe, the vehicle was analyzed with its relation to the 1953 model. The 2004 Continental GT was inspired by the 1954 R-type Continental Coupe and it still shows on the 2019 version. The 2019 Continental GT is the third-generation of the modern Continental. There are many differences between the new model and the previous generations.

Twin-Turbocharged W12 Motor with 626 Horsepower

The new 2019 Bentley Continental GT sports a twin turbo W12 motor. The W12 motor produces 626 horsepower at 6600 rpm and 664 lb.-ft.of torque from 1350 rpm to around 4000 rpm. This is a jump of 26 horsepower over the previous edition. Fortunately, fuel efficiency was raised by 16%, leading to a few more mpg. On the other side, the top speed is an astonishing 207 mph. Lastly, the Continental GT can hit 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds.

220+ Pounds Less than Predecessor

On top of the engine improvements, the 2019 Continental GT has other visible differences. The vehicle is 220 to 286 lbs less than the previous version but still weights a total of 5,000 lbs. The body of the vehicle is about ½” wider and similarly longer. The wheels on the new GT will sit 4.1” farther forward than on the current design. This leads to a front weight reduction down to a 55% front-to-rear ratio. Lastly, the GT will sit atop Pirelli P Zero tires.

Bentley Dynamic Ride System

On the technological side, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT will have the Bentley Dynamic Ride system. This system allows for management of spring rates, shock dampening, anti-roll bar stiffness, height to balance, handling, and front-to-rear grip. That is quite a list of adjustable features on this car. The 2019 GT will have 4 car modes: comfort, sport, custom, and Bentley. As expected, comfort leads to a comfortable ride while sport leads to a sportier ride. The custom option allows the driver to choose options individually to their preference. Lastly, the Bentley mode is the setup favored by Bentley’s engineers.

Semi-Autonomous Steering Capabilities

The 2019 Continental GT will also have semi-autonomous steering capabilities. This is far from a full out autonomous vehicle but a move towards that direction for the future. The vehicle also has smart LED headlights that can adjust beams to prevent other drivers from being blinded on the road. On the inside, there is a 12.3” infotainment touch screen. In addition, the vehicle has a compass, timer, and exterior temperature gauge.

Priced at Slightly Over $200,000

As expected, the 2019 Continental will be for sale at a hefty price of slightly over $200,000. The vehicle should be arriving to market sometime in mid-2018. Between the powerful W12 motor and the technology advancements, this will be the best GT yet. Hitting high speeds and maneuvering through turns will not phase the new Continental GT. Overall, the 2019 Bentley Continental GT is a beautiful, stunning vehicle that will display prominently on the roadways.

Hurricane Harvey & Irma: Damaging 1 Million Cars

Hurricane Harvey & Irma: Damaging 1 Million Cars

Hurricanes Destroy Estimated 1 Million Cars

In an unfortunate series of events, the United States was battered in the second half of 2017 with two major hurricane impacts. Hurricane Harvey and Irma have caused an estimated 1,000,000 cars to be damaged by the storms. Hurricane Harvey impacted the Texan gulf coast as well as the major city fo Houston. On the other hand, Hurricane Irma took aim at Florida’s keys and west coast. Worst of all, tens of thousands of people were displaced in both storms as they had to depart their homes for safety.

100,000 Auto Insurance Claims by September 3, 2017

Hurricanes are storms well known for their destructive power between flooding, rain, and wind. Unfortunate for many, tens of thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed. As of September 3, 2017, there had been 100,000 auto insurance claims due to Harvey alone. Harvey is estimated to have destroyed between 300,000 and 500,000 vehicles that were in its path. Only a portion of those vehicles have requested insurance coverage but that is expected to increase dramatically moving through September. On the other hand, Hurricane Irma hit not too long after wreaking havoc on the keys and Florida’s west coast, damaging hundreds of thousand cars itself.

Hurricane Harvey Destroyed More Cars Than Katrina & Sandy

Hurricane Harvey destroyed more cars the Hurricane Katrina in 2005 or Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Honestly, Hurricane Harvey may have caused more damaged vehicles than both of those storms combined. Hurricane Katrina damaged 200,000 cars while Hurricane Sandy damaged 250,000 cars, a total of 450,000. If the 500,000 estimate is more correct, this one storm had double the destructive power. In Houston, the 4th largest city in America, an estimated 94.4% of households own a vehicle according to Cox Automotive.

One of Worst U.S. Hurricane Seasons on Record

As one of the worst hurricane seasons on record in history, the 2017 season wreaked havoc for many. From damaged homes to vehicles, Hurricane Harvey caused an estimated $75-95 billion in damages. At this point, the areas effected are beginning to return to what was once “home” to begin rebuilding and move forward. One of the best options for each of these locations would be to evaluate storm protocols and systems to implement better protection for their citizens. In the end, the survivors of these hurricanes need support to turn their destructed land into home once again.

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar: The $2.8 Million Collector’s Car

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar: The $2.8 Million Collector’s Car

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar

At the 2017 Frankfurt International Auto Show, Mercedes-AMG revealed the Project One Hypercar. At $2.8 million MSRP, the Project One is a formula-1 inspired hypercar. After long speculation of a Mercedes hypercar, Mercedes-AMG did not disappoint. With production beginning in 2019, the vehicle will be limited to 275 units which are already sold out. Surprisingly, the Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar may not sport the motor system you were expecting.

1.6-Liter Turbocharged V6 & Electric Motor Combination

Unlike the Bugatti Chiron that has 1500 horsepower via a 8.0-liter W16 motor, the Mercedes-AMG Project One will sport a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 and electric motors. With the 8.0-liter W16, the Chiron can shed a 26 gallon tank of gasoline in 8 minutes flat… phew! Although the Project One has a much smaller motor, it can hit 0-60 mph in only 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 217 mph. The V6 motor itself producing around 700 horsepower with a 11,000 rpm limit. The three electric motors produce 500 horsepower themselves, leading to ~1,200 horsepower total.

Mercedes-AMG Project One Electric Motors

The electric motors act in a multitude of ways on the Project One. First, there is one electric motor located at each of the front wheels. The third electric motor is within the engine bay. A fourth electric motor spins the turbocharger so there is never lag when acceleration is necessary. Another benefit to this overall electrical setup is that the plugin hybrid system allows for torque vectoring. On the hybrid drive system alone, the Project One can complete 20 miles silently for those late night cruises.

The Project One was engineered with a lightweight carbon fiber body. Furthermore, Carbon wheels and carbon ceramic brakes complement the body. The front and rear spoilers are active which help with cornering. Although expected with other Mercedes models, automation is not an option on this vehicle. Another difference is that the doors open forward then up rather than directly outwards.

The Project One’s body has adequate intakes and vents to keep the motor cool and breathing well. On the interior, it looks like a F1 car with a passenger seat. The steering wheel has multicolored buttons and dials. On the dash, there are dual 10 inch hi-resolution LCD screens. The rear view mirror system is camera based rather than simply a mirror.

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar: Car Collector’s Dream

Overall, the Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar is a brand new addition to the highly collectible cars realm. With a combination of electric and fuel, this car can compete with the best of the best. The top speed may not be as high as some competitors but for a V6 and electricity, it speaks for itself. The carbon fiber body, wheels, and brakes make for an authentic racing appearance. In the end, if you were able to pay $2.8 million for one of 275 units, you are one lucky car collector.

2018 BMW i3 & i3s

The i3, BMW’s small electric car, is receiving an overhaul for the 2018 model year. The first major part of the news is that there will be an i3s model with additional power and a sportier styling. Secondly, the vehicles will both be offered with a mileage extender. On top of this, the BMW i3 and i3s will have the new iDrive 6 system with Apple CarPlay. This may not seem like much but it is a step forward for the i3 electric car.

125 kW Electric Motor with 168 Horsepower

The BMW i3 sports a 125 kW electric motor producing 168 horsepower on the base model. The i3’s base battery option is a 21.6-kWh (Kilowatt Hours) lithium-ion battery pack. There is also an optional battery pack of 33.2 kWh to increase range by 33 miles. The base battery has 60 Ah while the larger battery has 94 Ah (Amp Hours). This causes the 60 Ah range to be 81 miles (130 km). For the 94 Ah, the range is 114 mi (183 km), a 33 mile difference. If the range extender is opted for, the i3 base battery mileage drops to 72 miles while the 94 Ah drops to 97 miles. The difference is made up with a 0.6-liter twin cylinder engine known as the range extender.

2018 BMW i3 Base Model

For the BMW i3, it has been 4 years since its introduction. Now, the i3 has 170 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This means the i3 can complete 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. The top speed of this model is 93 mph. The base model MSRP is $44,450 while the range extender package ups the bill to $48,300.

2018 BMW i3s

For the BMW i3s, it is a brand new version of the i3 to be introduced for the 2018 model year. The i3s has 184 horsepower and 199 lb.-ft. of torque. This leads the i3s to hit 60 mph in only 6.8 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the base i3. The top speed of the i3s is 100 mph, 7 mph faster than the base i3. The enhancements that place the i3s over the i3 include modified motor controls, tapered roller bearings, 20” wheels, sports suspension, and the Driving Dynamics Control System. Both the i3 and i3s are equipped with the iDrive 6 system integrated with Apple CarPlay.

BMW i3 is the New SMART Car

The 2018 BMW i3 and i3s are a step forward for the electric model. The four year old i3 had an overhaul while the i3s was introduced to the market. The i3s should attract customers looking for a cheap, sporty electric vehicle. Some may say it isn’t the prettiest car, it is BMW’s version of the SMART car. Overall, the 2018 BMW i3 and i3s should benefit BMW’s placement in the electric car market.
