In honor of McLaren’s 1st F1 victory, the 720S Spa 68 Collection was born. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) was commissioned by a Brussels dealership to build 3 models for sale. The McLaren 720S Spa 68 is a stunning car in MSO Bespoke Anniversary Orange paint. The rear wheel arch has a silver tracing of Spa-Francorchamps, where the victory took place. Bruce McLaren, the founder, won his fourth F1 victory at this event. But, it was the first ever victory under the McLaren manufacturer name. Furthermore, the car has text written on it stating “1st McLaren F1 Victory Belgium Grand Prix 9th June 1968 – Bruce McLaren”. Obviously, this is a straightforward statement of the reason for the model.

The McLaren 720S Spa 68 Collection commemorates one of McLaren’s largest milestones in it’s racing career. But, Bruce McLaren was obviously not driving a 720S in 1968. He was behind the wheel of a McLaren M7A, a historic vehicle for the company. This car had the signature papaya orange livery, that MSO mimics today. On the current Spa 68 model, there are satin black split five-spoke wheels. Obviously, high-quality tires meant for track fit these wheels. Finally, the interior is a mix of black Alcantara with orange stitching. McLaren sure does know how to make cars unique!

MSO has another hit with the McLaren 720S Spa 68 Collection. This vehicle pays tribute to Bruce McLaren’s tremendous M7A victory at F1 Spa-Francorchamps. With only 3 models for sale, 2 have already been sold by the dealership. So, if there is enough cash in the bank, now may be the time to contact them for a settlement. Unless, it is already too late – which it may be. Overall, the Spa 68 is an awesome vehicle that’ll be another collectible piece for any McLaren fan.

Fireworks & Cars? Well… Maybe Not.

Fireworks & Cars? Well… Maybe Not.

Who Doesn’t Enjoy Fireworks & Cars?

Happy New Year 2019! With the arrival of the New Year, the thoughts of cars and fireworks are on the minds of many. Some people simply set goals for their own car, or car purchases. Other people celebrate with firework displays or setting them off safely at home. And, furthermore, some people even celebrate with cars and fireworks. Daily Driven Exotics did just so for July 4th, 2018. With the DDE Lamborghini Huracán and a Porsche driving about, fireworks were shot into the sky around them. The purpose of this was to celebrate the “4th of July Canadian style”. Although it looks absolutely awesome, it unfortunately destroys the Lamborghini’s tires.

The DDE Lamborghini Huracán is quite a spectacular vehicle. The base Huracán itself is an amazing beast. Prior to any modifications, the Huracán sports a 5.2-liter V10 engine. This works in combo with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The RWD version rocks 572 horsepower while the track-ready, AWD Performante has 631 horsepower. Just as the Gallardo and Murciélago before, the Aventador and Huracán will be moving out of the lineup soon. This doesn’t make them less phenomenal, but more so collectible. The Gallardo can still fetch around $100,000 or more, while the Murcielago is at least double that.

Use Precautions with Fireworks!

JULY 4TH FIREWORKS DESTROY LAMBORGHINI TIRES! – DailyDrivenExotics – YouTube

Overall, the DDE Lamborghini Huracán is a beastly machine. Celebrating New Years 2019 with a car like this and fireworks would be absolutely awesome… until the tires melt. Unfortunately, the Huracán didn’t survive the celebration. The tires didn’t handle the fire and heat well, leading to requiring replacement. On top of that, driving the way that is shown in the video is a sure way to destroy tires as well. So, first off, be sure not to drive illegally, irresponsibly, or recklessly. Secondly, always use fireworks with caution, care, and adult supervision, where needed. In conclusion, the Huracán is an awesome car and this video showcases how to NOT celebrate with fireworks and a Lamborghini … lol.

Mercedes-Benz to Unveil Next-Gen CLA at CES 2019

Mercedes-Benz to Unveil Next-Gen CLA at CES 2019

A New Generation for the CLA

With the fresh upcoming year of 2019, manufacturers will introduce technology that’ll be the anticipation of the next decade. At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mercedes-Benz plants to unveil the next-gen CLA. Not surprisingly, a few other vehicles will be on display at the Benz CES booth, all new to the United States. Mercedes intends to showcase the most technologically advanced automobiles it has ready to unveil. With the date approaching, Mercedes shared a teaser as seen at the top of the article. This is the roofline of the new CLA. The car should look like an a-class with a 4-door, coupe roof style setup.

Hopes for the Next-Gen CLA

With the next-gen CLA, the first hope is for better rear headroom. Previously, this car was known for rear headroom issues. Furthermore, this car will sport the MBUX infotainment system. This provides the driver with AI-powered assistance. This includes language commands as well as “identifies operation requests on basis of movements”. This statement seems to mean that the driver will be able to use hand or body motion to control the vehicle. This is not new, as BMW seems to be onto the same project.

The CLA Won’t Be Alone!

Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) World Premiere | CES 2018 – Mercedes-Benz – YouTube

With the next-gen CLA, Mercedes plans to display the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV. On top of that, the Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic Concept will be there too. The EQC electric SUV aims to offer customers with 402 horsepower and 564 lb.-ft. of torque. Furthermore, the electric batteries shall allow it to drive for around 280 miles before requiring recharge. It won’t be surprising if Benz begins to offer hybrid versions of typical cars, including the CLA. With the upcoming decade of 2020 to 2030, manufacturers will probably make the shift to hybrids and EVs. In conclusion, anyone in attendance at CES 2019 should be looking for the Mercedes booth!

How Does an Exhaust System Work?

How Does an Exhaust System Work?

The Functions of an Exhaust System

In modern times, most people have driven or ridden in a vehicle. With automobiles, the debates of pollution and sound become alive. But, sometimes both of these can be down to the car itself. In this article, the goal is to help with a common question: “How Does an Exhaust System Work?”. Well, the exhaust begins with four main functions. These functions are:

  1. Direct Fumes Away from Cabin & Passengers
  2. Improve Fuel Consumption (MPG)
  3. Improve Performance (HP/TQ)
  4. Noise Amplification or Reduction (Usually Reduction)

With the exhaust handling these functions, its purpose is quite diverse. While it keeps passengers from breathing harmful gases, it also can add power and improve fuel consumption. Furthermore, all exhausts have a tone… hence noise is amplified or reduced via the muffler or silencer design. Finally, the layout of an exhaust system can depend on engine size, manufacturer, and/or model.

Control of Toxic Gases

Porsche Exhaust - Rear Undercarriage - Max Pixel - EuroDrift

Porsche Exhaust – Rear Undercarriage – Max Pixel – EuroDrift

When asking “How Does an Exhaust System Work?”, the concept of exhaust emissions comes into play. When an engine runs, it produces a total of 6 gases as emissions. Unfortunately, 3 of these gases are toxic: carbon monoxide, nitrogen monoxide, and nitrogen oxide. So, an entire design arrives around this to attempt to minimize the release of these gases into the atmosphere. Also, it obviously works to keep these gases away from the driver or passengers of the car. These gases are dangerous and can be harmful to animals, the environment, people, and plants.

How Do Emissions Exit the Car?

Car Exhaust - Rear of Automobile - Pixabay - EuroDrift

Car Exhaust – Rear of Automobile – Pixabay – EuroDrift

Again, when asking “How Does an Exhaust System Work?”, the gas must be filtered in some manner, correct? Right! First, the exhaust manifold collects gas from the cylinder head acting as a funnel. Next, the gas travels to the catalytic converter, where applicable. For instance, electric vehicles (EVs) do not have catalytic converters when there are no gasoline engines. Well, on the other hand, hybrids do for the engine portion of power. At the catalytic converter, the harmful gases are removed prior to moving on. Finally, the final gases pass through downpipes to the exhaust’s muffler or silencer. The purpose of this part of the exhaust is to filter sound, or amplify it. Manufacturers tend to remove sound while aftermarket companies amplify it.

Hopefully, That Helps!

How Car Exhaust System Works – Automotive Basics – YouTube

So, hopefully this article helps with the question: “How Does an Exhaust System Work?”. Covering the basics of gases to release via the exhaust tips, this article covers a decent portion of the process. The goal of this is to provide readers with a simple understanding of the system. Obviously, there is more that can be for discussion such as details on specific designs or layouts, temperature effects, and more. But, that is something for another time. Overall, the exhaust system plays a vital role on all gasoline vehicles.
