Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition: Farewell to S-Class V12

Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition: Farewell to S-Class V12

An Official Goodbye to the S-Class V12

After many, many years of the S-Class sporting a V12 option, it is time to say farewell. To close out the S-Class V12 era, Daimler is introducing the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition. This vehicle has a limit of 130 units that include a number badge. Furthermore, the car arrives with a styling Obsidian Black Metallic paintjob and a mix of carbon fiber and copper accents. The Final Edition made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in 2019. Although this car is a tribute to the era of V12 S-Class vehicles, it signals the next design that is coming soon. The next-gen S-Class will probably boast similar power with a smaller, more efficient engine. Honestly, don’t be surprised to see a fully electric or hybrid version… but who knows?

The Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition sports a 6.5-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. This motor boasts 612 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque. From 0 to 60 mph, this large luxury vehicle takes only 3.9 seconds. While this much power and speed sounds great, the 6.3-Liter V8 in the S63 sedan is actually faster. While the wild roar of the V12 will be missed by many, the power will not be gone. Actually, there will probably be more power, and more efficiency. So, that means the power will be more responsive and capable of performing with the crème of the crop.

For the 2020 model year, Mercedes will bring the A35 sedan to the United States. The 2020 Mercedes-AMG A35 is an entry-level sedan. This vehicle is Mercedes’ cheapest and least powerful model. But, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad car. Furthermore, this car is being considered the ultimate small performance car. So, it may be quite perfect for people in this price range. Expectations are that the A35 will be in the 40k price range. Obviously, this is without all whistles and buttons.

AMG Replaces E43 with E53 for 2019 Model Year

For the 2019 model year, Mercedes-AMG is replacing the E43 with the E53. The 2019 Mercedes-AMG E53 will be available in a cabriolet, coupe, and sedan variant. The cabriolet and coupe were revealed at the Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show 2018). The E43 was a perfect match for someone looking for more than a base E300 and less than the overwhelming E63. Now, the E53 will be the middleman. The E53 has a different engine as well as some slight exterior mods in comparison to the base model. The exterior has two power bulges on the hood as well as a redesigned rear bumper with diffuser.

3.0-Liter Turbocharged Inline-Six with 429 Horsepower

2019 Mercedes-AMG E53 Sedan – Interior – Manufacturer Picture – EuroDrift

The 2019 Mercedes-AMG E53 sports a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine. This motor produces 429 base horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque. To support the engine, there is a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This hybrid system produces only 21 horsepower but a whopping 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The purpose of this is to help with fuel consumption and power during usage. Furthermore, there is an electric auxiliary compressor that works with the exhaust-driven turbo to minimize lag.

In combo with the engine, there is a 9-speed AMG transmission. On top of this, there is an AWD system in the 2019 Mercedes-AMG E53. From 0-60 mph, the E53 coupe takes only 4.3 seconds. On the other hand, the cabriolet and sedan take 4.3 seconds, 0.1 seconds longer. The top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph for all three versions.

Mercedes-AMG is Looking to the Future

The 2019 Mercedes-AMG E53 is proof that Mercedes is looking to the future. With more power and better fuel consumption, this car is taking a leap forward. Furthermore, Mercedes-AMG will be offering optional 20” lightweight alloy wheels on the E53. This is on top of the 14.2” brake discs in use for all of the wheels. The MSRP is currently TBD but will most likely be available by the fall or winter. AMG expects to offer the E53 starting end of 2018 in the U.S. In conclusion, the new E53 is a beautiful feat of engineering with sufficient power and luxury.

2016 Mercedes-AMG GT Super Bowl XLIX Commercial: Hare vs. Tortoise Showdown

2016 Mercedes-AMG GT Super Bowl XLIX Commercial: Hare vs. Tortoise Showdown

2016 Mercedes-AMG GT Super Bowl XLIX Commercial

In 2015, Mercedes-Benz advertised the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT during Super Bowl XLIX (49). At the beginning of the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT Super Bowl XLIX commercial, a hare and tortoise prepare for a showdown race. This race contains basis in the Aesop book titled The Tortoise and the Hare. As anyone would suspect, the hare is the faster creature. But, in this race, just as the book, a series of events alters the outcome of the race.

Hare vs. Tortoise Showdown Begins!

At the starting line, the hare and tortoise line up and a fox releases a bird to signal the start. And, they’re off! The hare looks like a rocket ship blasting down the path while the tortoise struggles to move. To rub it in even more, a snail begins to pass on the tortoise’s left. Eventually, the hare makes it so far ahead he decides to hang out while he waits for the tortoise to arrive a while later.

Mercedes-AMG Factory to Victory

Luckily, for the tortoise, a Mercedes-AMG factory is located within the forest of the race. The tortoise wanders into the factory, awed by the beautiful of the AMG build. From here, the race takes a twist. Launching out of the factory, the tortoise accelerates the AMG GT like a racing pro. After hauling ass down the road, the tortoise hops right over the hare to land in front for the victory. Luckily, for the hare, the car went airborne because otherwise that could’ve ended badly… for the hare.

The Tortoise and the Hare is a Life Lesson Story

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT Super Bowl XLIX commercial is great entertainment as well as a lesson in life. This life lesson is that one should not judge a book by its cover. Although it may appear slow, such as the tortoise, that can be a false representation. Unfortunately, for the hare, there were no rules specifying no use of vehicles. So, the tortoise made the right decision to hop into the Mercedes-AMG GT. In conclusion, a tortoise in a Mercedes-AMG GT kicks the ass of a hare… end of story.

2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet: A Mix of Luxury & Sport

2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet: A Mix of Luxury & Sport

The All-New 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet

For the 2018 model year, Mercedes-AMG is offering the S63 and S65 models in cabriolets. As with all previous years, the S65 is the top-tier “prize” model. The new 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet includes body style alterations and the same prominent V12 engine. While the S63 seems to include more changes for 2018, the S65 is still a mean machine. From it’s howling V12 to its new body curves, this S65 will probably be the best to date.

6.0-Liter V12 with 620 Horsepower

2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet - V12 Engine Bay - Mercedes-AMG - EuroDrift

2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet – V12 Engine Bay – Mercedes-AMG – EuroDrift

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet sports a 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine. This motor produces a whopping 620 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque. These power figures combine with a 7-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive to create a madhouse on wheels. The V12 allows the S65 to hit 60 mph in only 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph. Yes, the top speed is governed to this by Mercedes.

Comparison to the 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet

On the other hand, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet contains a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo. This top notch engine by Mercedes allows the S63 to hit 60 mph 0.6 seconds faster than the S65. The top speed is the same, which again, is due to Mercedes top speed governor regulation. This doesn’t mean that the S65 loses its crown. It simply a question of giving the new V8 a chance or sticking to the Mercedes famed V12.

On the front of the new S65 Cabriolet, there is a revised grill titled the “AMG Panamerica Grille”. This grill shows similarities to the version on the Mercedes-AMG GT. The S65 Cabriolet also has larger front air ducts on the front. On top of that, the front and rear bumpers show some revision work. Lastly, the car has a slightly different chrome trim layout. The S63 Cabriolet has similar alterations to body styling as well.

COMAND System with Two High-Resolution 12.3” Screens

On the interior, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet has multiple new options. The first is the new leather upholstery color options. Second, is the technology in this beast. Starting with two 12.3” high-resolution displays, the S65 shows modernization. The infotainment system uses the COMAND system by Mercedes. Another new feature is the ability to use hand gesture controls on the steering wheel to control the COMAND system. Lastly, another major improvement is the compatibility of this system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Minor Autonomous Functionality

On a final note, one of the biggest new features is the addition of autonomous features. Unlike Tesla, this car will not offer a ton of autonomous features. But, it does contain two major components of it. First, the Active Distance Assist Distronic will allow the vehicle to slow down and speed up in accordance with the vehicle in front of it. Second, the Active Steering Assist will help the driver stay in the center of a lane. This is a step forward in Daimler’s attempt to add autonomous vehicles to its lineup in the upcoming years.

The New S65 Cabriolet is a Beast on Wheels

2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet – Side without Roof – Mercedes-AMG – EuroDrift

Overall, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet is a beast of a convertible. With it’s V12 power-plant in combination with a beautiful exterior and interior, this car is a star on the road. The beautiful interior works with the new technology to take this car to the next stage. Autonomous features improve the quality of the vehicle and show Mercedes commitment to bring this concept to more vehicles. In the end, the S65 Cabriolet will provide the owner with prestige and style.

Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition: The End of the Gelandewagen Era

Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition: The End of the Gelandewagen Era

Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been an extravagant, iconic SUV since its debut in 1979. Initially starting with I4, I5, and I6 motors, the car has grown to become a rare spectacle. Currently, the G65 AMG sports a V12 motor that turns this SUV into a true beast. Unfortunately, Daimler AG, the owner of Mercedes-Benz, has decided it is time to let go of the prized V12 option. So, unfortunately, Daimler is releasing a final version called the Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition.

MSRP of $252,690 with 65 Limited Editions Worldwide

While the non-AMG G-Class starts at a MSRP of $122,400, the Final Edition is expected to cost around $252,690. Yes, 2 times as much as the base model. This price is not 100% official in the United States yet, but sources state the value was obtained from Mercedes-Benz. Limited to only 65 worldwide, the G65 AMG will have 30 for sale within the U.S. very soon. Obtaining one of these limited SUVs will be difficult and may be reserved for Mercedes top customers.

Symbolic Matte Bronze Trim

The Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition’s attractiveness begins with a matte bronze trim on the exterior. The matte bronze trim can be seen on the front bumper, mirrors, and wheels. On the inside, black Nappa leather is accented by carbon fiber with interwoven bronze accents. Even the passenger handle has a specialty badge for those “oh shit” moments. At least, your passenger can hold on for dear life in style when you accelerate this beastly SUV.

6.0-Liter Twin-Turbo V12 with 630 HP and 730 Lb.-Ft. of Torque

In the engine bay, a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 boasts an obnoxious 630 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque. This allows the SUV to hit 60 mph in only 5.3 seconds. Mercedes-AMG limits the SUV to a top governed speed of 143 mph, faster than anyone needs to go in a SUV. Considering the G65 has the same engine as a S65, the true top speed can be expected to be around 170-180 mph. Now it only makes sense that they limited it… going that fast in a SUV would probably prove deadly, very fast.

The End of the Gelandewagen Era

Overall, the Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition is a farewell to the G-Class and it’s V12 engine. Mercedes plan is to replace the G-Class with an all-new, similar vehicle with smaller engine options. Don’t worry, smaller engines don’t signal the loss of enormous power as many manufacturers have proven in the last few years. Regardless, the G65 Final Edition is a mean machine that can go through 2 feet of standing water and climb 27 degree slopes. On top of that, the G65 can tilt 20 degrees sideways before it may tilt over. In the end, the G-Class was an iconic symbol of wealth through the years and it’s lifetime has come to a demise.

2018 Audi RS5 vs. 2018 BMW M4 vs. 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe

2018 Audi RS5 vs. 2018 BMW M4 vs. 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe

Audi vs. BMW vs. Mercedes-Benz

In 2018, competition between European automobile manufacturers is still the norm. From Audi to BMW to Mercedes-Benz, these competitors are always attempting to overwhelm their counterparts. In this article, we will compare the 2018 Audi RS5, BMW M4, and Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe. Each car, with its own unique design, has pros and cons. Below, the comparison will determine the true winner of this battle.

2018 Audi RS5

The 2018 Audi RS5 was released to market in June 2017 in Europe. At a MSRP equivalent of $85,495, the RS5 has aimed at a higher market target. The 2018 RS5 is powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 compared to the previous 4.2-liter V8. This new motor produces 450 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft. of torque. Audi estimates the RS5 can hit 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 174 mph. With that number, the RS5 leaps forward into the realm of true sports car accelerations.

2018 BMW M4

Next, the 2018 BMW M4 is available in a coupe and convertible build with MSRPs of $67,195 and $75,695, respectively. For this analysis, the coupe will be considered the competitor. The M4’s 3.0-liter inline-six engine produces 425 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. With the Competition package, the M4 boasts 444 horsepower, slightly closer to the RS5. This power allows the M4 to hit 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the RS5. Lastly, the M4 has a top speed of 163 mph.

2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe

Lastly, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe still offers the lustful V8 engine at a MSRP of $75,500. With a 4.0-liter AMG V8 twin-turbo, the C63 S Coupe delivers 503 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. Already, Mercedes has around 50 horsepower more than the competition. This power allows the C63 S Coupe to hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. Unfortunately for Mercedes, the 50 extra horsepower didn’t do its homework. With a governor, the C63 S Coupe has a top speed of 180 mph. Usually, the governor is a sign that it can go, indeed, faster.

The Comparison

In comparison, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe has the highest amount of winning parameters. First, the C63 S Coupe sports a V8 with 50 more horsepower than the competition. Although this doesn’t win the 0-60 mph run, it will win at top speed, considering it hits 180 mph with a limiter. The Audi RS5 takes last place on the 0-60 mph run only by 0.1 seconds. For MSRP, the BMW M4 is the cheapest automobile followed by the AMG C63 S Coupe and the RS5. Note, the RS5 value is an estimation based on it’s value in Euros, so U.S. price may be slightly lower.

Winner: 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe

Overall, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe comes in first place in the is competition. It may not be the most environmental friendly, but in a competition of speed, this car wins. Second place can be considered given to the BMW M4 which can hit 60 mph just as fast as the AMG V8. It is also almost $10,000 less at MSRP. In last place, the Audi RS5 came in close, but not close enough. Behind by only 0.1 seconds on the 0-60, the RS5 ends up being the slowest accelerator here. The RS5 does come in second place for top speed though. In the end, the AMG C63 S Coupe takes the victory home for the 2018 model year.

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar: The $2.8 Million Collector’s Car

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar: The $2.8 Million Collector’s Car

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar

At the 2017 Frankfurt International Auto Show, Mercedes-AMG revealed the Project One Hypercar. At $2.8 million MSRP, the Project One is a formula-1 inspired hypercar. After long speculation of a Mercedes hypercar, Mercedes-AMG did not disappoint. With production beginning in 2019, the vehicle will be limited to 275 units which are already sold out. Surprisingly, the Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar may not sport the motor system you were expecting.

1.6-Liter Turbocharged V6 & Electric Motor Combination

Unlike the Bugatti Chiron that has 1500 horsepower via a 8.0-liter W16 motor, the Mercedes-AMG Project One will sport a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 and electric motors. With the 8.0-liter W16, the Chiron can shed a 26 gallon tank of gasoline in 8 minutes flat… phew! Although the Project One has a much smaller motor, it can hit 0-60 mph in only 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 217 mph. The V6 motor itself producing around 700 horsepower with a 11,000 rpm limit. The three electric motors produce 500 horsepower themselves, leading to ~1,200 horsepower total.

Mercedes-AMG Project One Electric Motors

The electric motors act in a multitude of ways on the Project One. First, there is one electric motor located at each of the front wheels. The third electric motor is within the engine bay. A fourth electric motor spins the turbocharger so there is never lag when acceleration is necessary. Another benefit to this overall electrical setup is that the plugin hybrid system allows for torque vectoring. On the hybrid drive system alone, the Project One can complete 20 miles silently for those late night cruises.

The Project One was engineered with a lightweight carbon fiber body. Furthermore, Carbon wheels and carbon ceramic brakes complement the body. The front and rear spoilers are active which help with cornering. Although expected with other Mercedes models, automation is not an option on this vehicle. Another difference is that the doors open forward then up rather than directly outwards.

The Project One’s body has adequate intakes and vents to keep the motor cool and breathing well. On the interior, it looks like a F1 car with a passenger seat. The steering wheel has multicolored buttons and dials. On the dash, there are dual 10 inch hi-resolution LCD screens. The rear view mirror system is camera based rather than simply a mirror.

Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar: Car Collector’s Dream

Overall, the Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar is a brand new addition to the highly collectible cars realm. With a combination of electric and fuel, this car can compete with the best of the best. The top speed may not be as high as some competitors but for a V6 and electricity, it speaks for itself. The carbon fiber body, wheels, and brakes make for an authentic racing appearance. In the end, if you were able to pay $2.8 million for one of 275 units, you are one lucky car collector.
